What type of donations can a volunteer collect? Non perishable items, ready to eat food, snacks, vegetables, fruits, toiletries and new clothing.

Why do I need a starter pack? This is so you can access Looprun In Store assigned free donations and resources.

Will I get paid to volunteer? No, as this is a sustainable volunteer role where you can benefit from free food and donations and resources if in need.

What if I don't know anyone in need? We can match you to a local project i.e. care homes, soup kitchens and community groups.

How long does it take to go live? All volunteers are sent a unique volunteer ID and portal access via email. Online onboarding is required to be completed. This includes reading and confirming that the role of a Sustainable Volunteer and the importance of Food Safety and Hygiene has been understood. The hi-vis vest is sent to the indicated delivery address. Once your file confirms that both induction and hi-vis is complete your local store match details will be confirmed on email.

Can I receive a reference? Yes, within the first month of volunteering.

Can my hi-vis vest be shared with another? Absolutely no. All our volunteers are made aware by our store partners and we do random checks.

Do I log the donations? Yes, we have a quick and simple pick up and delivery log system to confirm impact.

UK food soaring to 50% by November

UK Supermarkets have rang the alarms on food costs soaring due to the impact of conflict. Click here for the full article for reference and watch video. With costs spiralling due to energy, logistics and supply chain costs. Also adverse weather conditions have not helped either. The Independent, Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit (ECIU) has predicted 50% higher food price costs by November 2026. With inflation already up to 3.3% and predicted to rise to 6.3% by the Bank of England in 2027. And with grocery inflation currently at 3.8% mirroring the situation. Every day food items such as eggs, beef, and vegetables are up by more than 50%. Pasta and olive oil has also had a huge knock on effect.

Butter, milk, beef, chocolate and coffee are the 5 food items being hit the hardest. 2027 is predicted to be the hottest year on record which could mean further dramatic hikes. BRC (British Retail Consortium) have highlighted that government policies are not helping either and many retailers are already absorbing costs to deal with the rises. From shipping, fertiliser, and distribution costs. Also employment costs of up to 6.5 billion over the last 2 years have not helped either. Further to add fuel to the fire are the packaging tax worth 1.6 billion. With everyone in the food cycle being stretched, consumers are included in this knock on effect.

With food budgets for many households already tight or having to rely on food banks this is not welcomed news. Meal skipping consequences means seeing an increase in diet related illnesses. This adds further pressure to the NHS and healthcare workforce.

We highly recommend considering Sustainable Volunteering to get access to free food resources and more. Also Cropshare to grow vegetables, fruits and herbs to help with overall wellbeing and health.
